ROMOLO GESSI: born in Trieste, Italy, Maestro Gessi completed his musical studies at the Trieste Conservatory. Further conducting studies ensued at the State Conservatoire of St.Petersburg, under Musin and Kukuskin, at the Wiener Meisterkurse für Dirigenten in Vienna under Julius Kalmar, and at the Accademia Musicale in Pescara under Donato Renzetti, obtaining Diplomas with the highest marks. He has won many awards, including the Opera Conducting Competition of Caserta, and the First Prize at the International Austro-Hungarian Conducting Competition of Vienna and Pécs. He was appointed professor of Conducting at the Conservatorio “Verdi” of Milan. Since 1997 he has been teaching conducting at the European Academy in Vicenza and opera conducting at the International Workshop OperAverona. He is also Professor of Chamber Music at the National Conservatory of Trieste an he has been Guest Professor at the Vienna Music University and at the Norwegian Music Academy. He is Music Director of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Chamber Orchestra, Principal Guest Conductor of the Pro Musica Salzburg Orchestra and of the Filarmonia Veneta Orchestra. He has been Music Director of the Cantelli Symphony Orchestra in Milan from 2006 to 2008. He has conducted many orchestras, such as the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the State Opera Prague, the Radio Symphony Orchestra Cracow, the Izhevsk’s Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Pécs Symphony Orchestra, the Santo André Symphony Orchestra, the Gainesville Symphony Orchestra, the Sofia’s Soloists, Milano Classica, I Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano, the Trieste Opera House, the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, the Bari Symphony Orchestra, the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra, the Lecce Symphony Orchestra, the Marchigiana Philharmonic, the Spoleto Opera House in the principal cities of Italy as well as in those of Austria, Brazil, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Norway, Poland, Rumania, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, USA.
